- With the NBA regular season concluding
next Wednesday, TNT offers up one
last Thursday double header telecast.
The first game features two teams
headed in opposite directions when
New York and Cleveland collide at
Quickens Loan Arena.
The season cannot
end fast enough for Knickerbockers
fans. NY has been without question
the biggest disappointment this season.
Not even the great Larry Brown has
been able to turn this franchise around,
as the Knicks check in at horrific
22-55 SU and 35-42 ATS overall. Further,
note that NY is just 17-21 ATS on
the road and 18-29 ATS vs. the East.
New York is also
coming off a 101-82 blowout road loss
to Indiana. If there is a silver lining,
perhaps it is that NY entered that
game on a 3-0 run both SU and ATS.
Perhaps also surprising is that Brown’s
bunch is 9-7 ATS this season when
visiting teams with a winning record.
Cleveland for
their part is coming off a 96-73 blowout
loss to Detroit in Motown. The Cavaliers
lost more than a game, however, as
LeBron James sprained his ankle in
the third quarter and did not return.
His status for Thursday’s game
is unknown at time of press.
In any event,
Cavaliers backers should not be complaining
too much as their team is still headed
to the playoffs at 47-31 SU and 42-33-3
ATS overall. They are also a robust
23-15-1 ATS as a host, including 11-7
ATS when the visitor carries a losing
record. CLE is also a rock solid 26-18-3
ATS vs. the East.
And unlike the
past two seasons, the Cavs are not
collapsing down the stretch. Even
with yesterday’s setback, CLE
is still 15-5 SU and 16-4 ATS their
last twenty games. Of course, all
the discrepancies between these teams
will be more than compensated in the
line whether James plays or not. And
strangely enough, NY is 2-0 both SU
and ATS vs. CLE this season.
The concluding
game of the TNT double header features
a far more balanced match-up when
Dallas travels to Phoenix to take
on the Suns. The Mavericks are coming
off a humiliating 114-102 road yesterday
to the lowly Warriors last night as
a whopping 9.5-point road favorite.
It was actually
the third time GS had defeated DAL
this season both SU and ATS. These
being the same Warriors that entered
last night on a nine game losing streak.
In any event, it snapped Dallas five
game winning streak SU and dropped
them to 0-2 ATS their last two after
cashing the previous four games. Note
too that DAL is a tired 6-10-1 ATS
on zero days rest.
Even with the
setback, DAL is just 1.5 games behind
San Antonio for the best record in
the West at 59-19 SU and 38-38-2 ATS.
That said, Avery Johnson and Crew
are an eye-popping 8-0 ATS off an
upset loss as a favorite!
Of course, Dallas
will not be facing any slouch. Phoenix
checks in at 51-26 SU and 41-35-1
ATS overall. They are just 19-19 ATS
as a host. However, that number does
not tell the full story, as the Suns
are a blistering 11-5 ATS hosting
teams with a winning record. PHO is
also a scorching 17-6 ATS as a favorite
of 5.5-points or less.
We should note
though that the Suns have cooled down
the stretch as they are just 6-7 SU
and 5-7-1 ATS their last thirteen
games. These teams have also met twice
this year with DAL prevailing in two
of the contests both SU and ATS.
That is all for
now. Good luck with your bets!
