NBA Wagering – Week One Review

With the first week of the 2007-08 NBA season now a thing of the past; this NBA Wagering article will take a quick look at the top ATS teams of the week in an effort to assist bettors with their respective NBA picks for this upcoming week’s games.

The surprise of all surprises may be the inspired play of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant. Despite all of the off-court hoopla surrounding Bryant and his ongoing hypothetical trade scenarios, the Lakers have opened the season with three consecutive solid efforts in compiling a straight up record of 2-1 and spotless 3-0 record against the spread.

For all their shortcomings, as long as the Lakers have Bryant - and get above average outings from his supporting cast – Los Angeles will likely cover more than they did last season when they posted a 36-43-3 ATS record.

The No. 2 ATS team of the week is the New Orleans Hornets. While New Orleans may only be a young mediocre team that is a few years away from being a contender, their 47-33-2 ATS record last season and 3-0 ATS start this season should remind bettors that the Hornets are one of the best value teams on the board every night.

Two more young teams occupy the third and fourth spots on the ATS chart. The Minnesota Timberwolves have covered the spread in both of their games despite dropping each contest straight up while the Atlanta Hawks are also 2-0 ATS while going 1-1 SU, including a riveting 101-94 win over the Dallas Mavericks and a one-point loss to the Detroit Pistons.

The revamped Boston Celtics also went 2-0 ATS while winning both of their first two games of the regular season and will likely be an excellent wager on most nights (if the spread isn’t too high when they’re favored) . Despite dropping both of their games in the opening week, the Los Angeles Clippers managed to cover in each contest and could put up better numbers this season than the 38-43-1 ATS record they posted last season.
