The NBA betting campaign is set for tip-off
and now's the time to take advantage of futures
wagering. Here's a look at your winning selections
to win each division.
Atlantic Division - Boston Celtics (-180)
The Boston Celtics found themselves at the bottom
of the standings last season at 24-58 SU (straight
up) in the Atlantic, but the addition of Kevin
Garnett, Ray Allen, James Posey and Eddie House
will greatly strengthen the Celtics.
Boston will need a few months to form team chemistry,
but even if they begin the year slow, this soft
division will allow the Celtics to go from last
to first this season as the most improved team
in all of the NBA by far.
Four of the five teams in the Atlantic Division
ended last year's campaign with losing records.
Only the Toronto Raptors owned a winning record,
and they were all of two games above .500.
The Celtics went 42-39-1 ATS (against the spread)
last year. At home, they were 12-29 SU and 13-27-1
ATS. Away from home, they were also 12-29 SU
but a money-making 29-12 ATS.
Central Division - Detroit Pistons (+175)
Detroit has leadership in veteran Rasheed Wallace,
Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess. They will
be joined by the young legs of Rodney Stuckey,
Jarvis Hayes and Arron Afflalo.
The Pistons have made an appearance to the Eastern
Conference finals in their last five seasons,
winning the Central Division along the way, and
if they can get quality minutes from Jason Maxiell,
Amir Johnson and Jarvis they'll again win the
Central this year.
The Pistons went 53-29 SU and 43-37-2 ATS last
year. At home, they were 26-15 SU and 15-24-2
ATS. On the road, they were 27-14 SU and 28-13
ATS.
Southeast Division - Washington Wizards (+800)
The Wizards returns all five of its starters
and they didn't make any notable changes to their
roster. Injuries to Gilbert Arenas and Caron
Butler last season ended what could have been
a promising playoff run. If Washington stays
healthy they are a team capable of winning the
Southeast.
Last year, the Wizards were 41-41 SU and 36-43-3
ATS. At home, they were 26-15 SU and 13-25-3
ATS. Away from home, they were 15-26 SU and 23-18
ATS.
Southwest Division - Dallas Mavericks (+105)
Dallas has a strong club from top to bottom.
Mavericks will suit up reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki,
an All-Star Josh Howard, one of the quickest
point guards in the NBA Devin Harris and a productive
veteran Jerry Stackhouse who might land a starting
job this season.
The Mavericks will be in a dog fight with the
San Antonio Spurs for division supremacy, but
in the end Dallas will prevail as co-favorites
in the Southwest.
Last year, the Mavericks were 67-15 SU and 41-37-4
ATS. At home, they were 36-5 SU and 19-20-2 ATS.
On the road, they were 31-10 SU and 22-17-2 ATS.
Northwest Division - Denver Nuggets (-160)
Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony now have a
year together under their belt. The duo will
be able to do enough to take the Northwest as
the favorites to do so.
Kenyon Martin should be ready to contribute
again as the Nuggets claim a division title in
what's a solid division.
Last year, the Nuggets were 45-37 SU and 45-36-1
ATS. At home, they were 23-18 SU and 20-21 ATS.
Away from home, they were 22-19 SU and 25-15-1
ATS.
Pacific Division - Phoenix Suns (-550)
NBA odds list the Suns heavy favorites to win
the Pacific and there's no reason for Phoenix
to make the oddsmakers look foolish. Steve Nash
will again be lights out and Shawn Marion will
be strong, despite asking to be traded.
The addition of Grant Hill, Brian Skinner, D.J.
Strawberry and Alando Tucker will only strengthen
this club. The Suns will once again finish atop
the standings as they have for each of the previous
three seasons.
Last year, the Suns were 61-21 SU and 44-37-1
ATS. At home, they were 33-8 SU and 21-19-1 ATS.
Away from home, they were 28-13 SU and 23-18
ATS.
