Memphis, Texas, LSU,
and UCLA have reached the Elite Eight, while Bradley,
West Virginia Duke and Gonzaga can only wonder
what could have been. Both the Texas and UCLA
games came down to last second shots, and we can
only hope for similar action tonight.

There are four more games
tonight. George Mason is giving 2.5 points to
Wichita State and Villanova is giving 2.5 points
to Boston College. Each of those games was featured
in this earlier upset column.
Georgetown
(+3) vs. Florida
This is a three seed in Florida
versus a seven seed in Georgetown.
Georgetown (21-9) has advanced
by beating Northern Iowa and second seeded Ohio
State. The Buckeyes were overrated just like all
the Big 10 teams, but an 18 point victory is still
very impressive nonetheless.
Florida (27-6) has continued
their hot play after winning the SEC post-season
tournament. Their tourney wins over South Alabama
and Wisconsin Milwaukee give them seven victories
in a row, and they are looking like the team that
started the year at 14-0.
I love the match-ups between
the big guys in this game. Florida has Joakim
Noah and Al Horford, and Noah is expected to be
a top seven pick in this year’s NBA draft.
Horford is the son of NBA player, Tito Horford.
Georgetown goes 7’2”,
6’9”, and 6’9” across
the frontline with Roy Hibbert, Brandon Bowman,
and Jeff Green. Hibbert had 20 points and 14 rebounds
against Ohio State, and if he puts forth that
kind of effort tonight, then the Hoyas should
advance.
Washington
(+6) vs. Connecticut
This is a one seed in Connecticut
versus a five seed in Washington.
Connecticut (29-3) is the
clear-cut favorite to win this tournament, even
more so with Duke out of the running. No other
team can match their combination of big men and
depth on the roster. The Huskies did have a huge
scare in the first round against Albany, but it
could have been the wake-up call they needed.
Washington (26-6) is a team
flying below the radar even after wins over Utah
State and Illinois. If they beat Connecticut in
a big upset though, they will be a solid favorite
to defeat either George Mason or Wichita State.
Washington is another hot team overall, winners
of 10 of 11.
Washington has a huge size
disadvantage in this game, and they are not expected
to get much inside scoring. Instead, they will
rely on Brandon Roy to carry the offensive burnen
once again, but he can not beat this team alone.
This looks like a very favorable match-up for
UConn.
