The Final Four is all set,
and the early odds at VIPsports.com have UCLA
(+2) versus LSU and George Mason (+6) against
favored Florida. The odds to the win the national
championship are also out, and here are some quick
notes on each team that you may want to consider.
By Michael Robinson
Bet
Now: Florida 8:5 National Championship & Final
Four Futures
Why they will win: With all
due respect to LSU, this team has the best big
men in the tournament. In the Elite Eight win
over Villanova, Joakim Noah and Tito Horford combined
for 33 points and 30 rebounds. Coach Billy Donovan
is also the only coach of the four remaining to
make a championship game (2000).
Why they won’t win:
Florida has been relying on their big men, but
if they face a physical inside team like LSU in
the finals, the Gators could be neutralized somewhat.
That being said, this team is deserving of its
favorite status.
Bet
Now: UCLA Bruins 13:5 National Championship
& Final Four Futures
Why they will win: With a
three point win over Alabama, a two point win
over Gonzaga, and a five point win over Memphis,
this team is battle tested and knows how to pull
out games late. A big reason for that is they
have one of the best backcourts in the nation
in Jordan Farmar and Arron Afflalo.
Why they won’t win:
Farmer and Afflalo have both struggled shooting
the ball. Against Memphis, they combined for an
awful 3-18. If they shoot like that against LSU,
they have no chance to win.
Bet
Now: LSU 22:10 National Championship
& Final Four Futures
Why they will win: Defense
and frontcourt play. The Tigers held Duke to just
54 points in the Sweet Sixteen round and Texas
to 60 point in the Elite Eight. Those two teams
were averaging over 82 and 76 points respectively.
LSU’s two big men, “Big Baby”
Davis and Tyrus Thomas combined for 47 points
and 22 rebounds against Texas.
Why they won’t win.
LSU has only made seven three pointers in the
last three games combined. When that happens,
it is hard for them to put up a lot of points
which could be a problem if their opponent is
shooting it well from behind the arc.
Bet
Now: George Mason 6:1 National Championship
& Final Four Futures
Why they will win: With wins
over Michigan State, North Carolina, Wichita State,
and Connecticut, they have already beaten the
best programs college basketball has to offer.
It almost seems like someone forgot to tell them
that they are supposed to lose. This team will
not be intimidated.
Why they won’t win:
This isn’t the “Wide World of Disney”
and at some point this Cinderella fairytale has
to end. George Mason also got to play the last
two games in Washington D.C, virtual “home”
games.
